Today, we experienced some big emotions in our classroom. We are recognizing that when we are feeling angry, frustrated, or upset, it can sometimes be difficult to stop, take a breath, and listen to what the other person is saying. When we are not willing or able to pause and listen to each other, conflicts can quickly escalate.
Rather than simply focusing on what went wrong, we are going to use these moments as opportunities to learn and grow. As a class, we will be working through conflict resolution strategies to help students recognize their emotions, pause when things become heated, listen to different perspectives, and work toward a solution.
Our goal is to help students feel confident navigating disagreements respectfully and to understand that having big emotions is okay—it is what we do with those emotions that matters. We will continue building these skills together as a classroom community.
